The DIVISUMMA 18
A motion and interaction tribute to the iconic Divisumma 18 printing calculator, celebrating Olivetti’s philosophy of merging technology, art, and usability. Crafted entirely in Rive, the project translates industrial design heritage into a tactile, cinematic digital experience.

Requirements
The goal of this project was to pay tribute to an iconic industrial design object while achieving a realistic skeuomorphic and neomorphic feel. All visual details needed to be built directly inside Rive, ensuring full control over vectors, motion, and lighting. At the same time, performance and scalability were essential constraints, with the experience elevated further through sound design and a polished presentation.
Challenges
One of the main challenges was recreating realistic light behavior, shadows, and reflections using feathering techniques alone. Maintaining high visual fidelity while keeping interactions performant required constant balance. Translating the material qualities of a physical object into pure vector form was another key difficulty, as was achieving emotional impact through motion and sound without relying on raster assets.
Process
We provided a team consisting of:

The process began with extensive research and reference gathering using high-quality photos of the original calculator. Visual direction was further shaped by community discussions that framed the device as the “Original Neomorphism,” influencing both form and lighting choices. The object was fully recreated as vectors inside Rive, with meticulous attention to depth, reflections, and light behavior. Iterative refinement followed, driven by patience and precision. The project concluded with the creation of a cinematic presentation that combined motion design with a custom soundtrack, blending nostalgia with a modern, refined edge.

The Concept
This project explores how digital motion can preserve and reinterpret industrial design history. By recreating the Divisumma 18 in Rive, it bridges past and present—honoring Olivetti’s design legacy while expressing it through modern interaction, sound, and real-time animation.
